Perhaps that’s why head judge Shirley Ballas said she would have saved Guru-Murthy instead. Sad as it is that we won’t see him in Blackpool, this feels like a fair result – although Angela Rippon was arguably lucky to beat him in the dance-off after she nearly fell over in her paso doble. However, he couldn’t match the technical prowess of a very strong cast, and his samba left him adrift on the leaderboard. He defied all expectations to make it this far, not just improving his skills but falling in love with ballroom – and really becoming an evangelist for dance. It was the most heart-warming “journey” of this season of Strictly, but Krishnan Guru-Murthy’s time in the ballroom has come to an end.
